Deputy Secretary

Sr. Maria Rukwishuro, SJI

Sister Maria Sheri. Rukwishuro SJI born and raised on a farm in a traditional Catholic family in Zimbabwe. Was inspired by the Sisters of the Child Jesus who taught me in High School. I took my First Vows in 1996 and Final vows in 2003 after joining in 1990. I went on to earn my Diploma in Religious Education from the University of Zimbabwe, Bachelor of Science Psychology from Fairmont State University and Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction ( Teacher Leadership) from Salem University, West Virginia.

For over twenty-five years I have dedicated my life to educating young people as a teacher in schools administered by the Dioceses in Zimbabwe teaching Religious Education, now I serve as Faith Formation Coordinator at Immaculate Conception Church. I served as the Liaison of the US Mission of my Order from 2007- 2018. In 2012 to date was appointed as Zimbabwe Catholic Community National Advisor by the USCCB. I have held different positions in ACCCRUS since 2012 till to date as Vice Financial Secretary, National Treasure from 2015- 2019 and now I am Vice Secretary. In the Women Religious Wing (AWRCUSA) I have held different position too in which now I am the National Secretary. I was named “Woman of Distinction” in 2017 by the PWA of Harrison County, for my work in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

“…Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9. I have learned that if God commanded it, I am not to question it. This verse helps me to know my strength and my life are in the hands of the one who holds the world in his hand.
