Advocacy: Giving Voice to Our Mission
Promoting human dignity, justice, inclusion, and the well-being of African Catholics and the communities we serve.
Our Commitment to Advocacy
Advocacy is an essential expression of our Catholic identity and our responsibility to serve. For ACCCRUS, it means standing with individuals and communities whose voices, dignity, and concerns deserve to be heard.
We seek to bring the experiences and perspectives of African clergy, religious, and Catholic communities in the United States into meaningful conversations that strengthen communities, promote justice, and advance the common good.
What We Advocate For
Human Dignity and Social Justice
Promoting respect for every human person, opposing discrimination, racism, exploitation, and injustice, and encouraging the protection of vulnerable people.
Immigrant and Refugee Communities
Supporting the dignity, pastoral needs, and fair treatment of African immigrants, refugees, and families as they contribute to the Church and American society.
Faith and Religious Freedom
Promoting religious freedom, cultural understanding, meaningful participation, and recognition of the contributions of African Catholics within the wider Church.
Youth, Education, and Families
Encouraging opportunities that empower young people, strengthen families, support education, and foster responsible leadership and citizenship.
Clergy and Religious Life
Raising awareness of the contributions, pastoral experiences, and needs of African priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters serving communities across the US.
Solidarity and the Common Good
Building constructive relationships with Church leaders, civic institutions, and community organizations to encourage peace, mutual respect, and the common good.
Advocacy is more than speaking on behalf of others. It is creating opportunities for people to be heard, respected, represented, and empowered.
How We Put Advocacy into Action
ACCCRUS seeks to advance its advocacy mission through education, public awareness, dialogue, collaboration, community engagement, and constructive engagement with decision-makers. Guided by Catholic social teaching, we believe lasting change grows from informed voices, responsible leadership, and a shared commitment to human dignity.
Join Us in Making a Difference
Advocacy is a shared responsibility. We invite clergy, religious, lay faithful, community leaders, and people of goodwill to work together in building communities where every person is valued and every voice matters.
